This new version of the free flash slideshow wordpress widget is the result of the feedback of one of you. So don’t hesitate and post your praise, questions, comments and critics. It all helps to make a better product!
So, what’s new? Did you notice that your slide show disappeared when you enabled permalinks? Well, it doesn’t anymore! Version 1.1 is permalink compatible!
The following information can also be found in the ‘readme.txt’ file that is included in the zip-file.
Installation
Installation is easy. Just download the free flash slideshow Wordpress widget, and install and activate it using the ‘Plugins/Add New’ menu in your Wordpress admin panel.
Once installed, you can add instances of the widget to your website through the ‘Appearance/Widgets’ menu, and change the settings by editing the added widget. Take a look at the CCSlideShow user guide for a complete list of all parameters.
You can add as many slide shows as you want. Each slide show has it’s own set of settings.
To make the images appear in the slide show, you need to set the first two parameters:
path
Has to contain the absolute path to the slides folder, WITH the final slash.
Use this setting when you have disabled ‘Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders’ in the Wordpress miscellanious settings, or are using a plugin that allows you to upload the images to a single folder.
Images
Has to contain a list of the image names, one image per line.
If you didn’t use the ‘path’ setting, or only put a part of the path there (because you’ve enabled ‘Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders’ in the Wordpress miscellanious settings, or anyway the images are stored in different folders), then you’ll have to add the (missing part of) the path to the image names.
License
The flash slideshow Wordpress widget is released under the GNU/GPL license.
The CCSlideShow.swf flash file included in the widget is released under this license. As long as the flash file is a part of the CCSlideShow Wordpress widget, you are free to use it as if it was released under GNU/GPL as well. If you want to use it outside of the CCSlideShow Wordpress widget, then you’ll have to abide the rules of this license.

Hi – this widget is exactly what I want – but – try as I might I can’t get it to work. Guess I’m probably doing something daft. I’ve reinstalled, followed the instructions as best I can – but I keep receiving a string of warnings where the widget should appear on my sidebar. All starting like this :
“Warning: fopen(/home/myusername/public_html/subdomain/wp-content/plugins/creative-clans-slide-show/xmlconfig387856011.xml) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/myusername/public_html/subdomain/wp-content/plugins/creative-clans-slide-show/creativeclans-slideshow-widget.php on line 401″

Hi Carol, thanks for using the slideshow.
You’re not really doing anything wrong, the message indicates that the widget can’t write its xml files in the widget directory. This depends on the permissions set for the ’subdomain/wp-content/plugins/creative-clans-slide-show/’ directory. You should try and change them, so the widget can write its files.

Ok I’ve managed it at last. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. For anyone else that is having difficulties, this is what I did.
Change the permission on THE FOLDER creative-clans-slideshow to 777. I did this using Filezilla – find the folder and right click. Select file permission.
When adding the photos use just wp-content/uploads/ as the the image path.
In Miscellaneous (under settings in WP admin) uncheck “organise my uploads into month and year based folders”
I’m glad you managed to resolve your problem. Are you sure you need the 777 permission? For me it works fine with 755. But I guess that also depends on how the server has been set up. Can’t help you with that though, because I don’t know anything about setting up servers.
What are the “28 transition types” and how are they activated?
For instance, I simply want a fade effect for each slide. I typed in the obvious “fade” in the Effects field and it did not work. It just cuts immediately to the next slide without a transition.
Seems like we might need some documentation for both what the transitions are and how to actually use them.

Hi cliff, thanks for your interest in the slideshow. I hope it’s what you were looking for. Sorry for the trouble you had finding the documentation. The link to it is right here, in this post. Are the links in the text really that hard to see? So far I had no other complaints.
Adding the documentation as another readme file to the wordpress widget package is a good idea. I’ll do that right away.

Re my above issue. It is now solved.
It was caused by my theme, Thesis, and my use of Open Hook. This was installing an extra widget in the PHP. If you use this combination and want this widget installed in the multimedia box, then untick the option ‘Execute PHP on this hook’

Hi Guys
Using the Wordpress plugin. My images (client logos) are different sizes but it seems I have to set the height and width of the images in the widget setting, which distorts some of the logos which do not fit those measurements. How do I overcome that please?

Hi Ashley,
At the moment, there is no way to tell the slide show not to resize the images. What you can do is make them all the same size yourself (using an appropriate tool, like GIMP).
It is a good idea for the new version, though, and it doesn’t seem too difficult to implement, so chances are it’ll be included in version 1.3, which is being developped right now.
